Hi, this is just a development blog that we use for testing features over at assetbar.
That’s a project we’ve been working on for almost 2 years now.
Assetbar is a platform and system architecture for developing scalable database intensive applications. If you rely on caching and your DB isn’t horizontally scalable, then buddy, you are not going to this party.
We’ve been inspired by some of the great web apps like google feed reader, delicious, photobucket, digg, slashdot, etc. and we wondered what it would look like if we brought these types of activities together on a new platform.
We’re trying to put some huge database power to work with “Collaborative Personalization”. That’s our phrase for what amounts to an effortless way to have a continuous conversation with the people and and topics that matter most to you.
Pretty much all web activities are better with “social” elements. Another way to think of our project is as a super-scalable platform that is designed to host lots of social apps. But instead of disparate silos of information, it’s integrated. Content creators and users are in control.
I don’t want to breathlessly oversell anything so I’ll just stop here. We’re aiming to release a beta before the end of the year. Hopefully it will show off what this platform can do for users. But there are more apps that can follow… In the meantime, you can see some of our core db technology in use at this comic site. No SQL, brother.
Oh, why Assetbar? Aren’t bars the original social network?
